Lluther was formed in 2005 by Gerry “G” Owens, who was looking for a new direction in music following the break-up of the highly acclaimed Skindive, in which Gerry was the main songwriter and guitarist. Skindive had been signed to music legend Chris Blackwell (U2, Tricky, Bob Marley etc)’s Palm Pictures record label, and their albums received excellent critical reviews with very credible sales in the US and around Europe. Skindive’s music featured in several television programs and was also used in the prestigious MTV Awards ceremony in 2003.
Shortly after Lluther were formed they recorded and self-released their first EP “Venus Complex” and this led to them being quickly snapped up and signed to the German heavy rock label Tiefdruck Music. The album “Agents Of Empire” was released shortly afterwards in Europe on the Tiefdruck label. Working closely with the label they began to play all around Europe and got a tremendous crowd reaction. In early 2008, Lluther parted amicably with Tiefdruck. At this time, Gerry’s songwriting and composing abilities were recognised by international music giants EMI Publishing where he signed to a major worldwide deal. After being signed by EMI, Gerry went back into the studio to work on a new and more mainstream rock sound. He spent 2009 working and writing, putting the time in to get right the songs he knew were bubbling within his creativity.
The end result ”Rise Of The Reptile King” a brand new and truly unique studio album from Lluther. All the tracks were written and produced by Gerry Owens, mixed by both Gerry and renowned studio mixer Chris O’Brien, and mastered by Richard Dowling.
Besides being chock full of cracking rock tunes, lyrics and melodies, the new album sees the band pushing the boundaries of rock music, entering the world of circus performance, freak shows, the supernatural and the bizarre.
Daring to be different, Lluther are not only planning the release of their album but are also currently working on the production and release of both the full length book and the graphic novel also entitled “Rise Of The Reptile King”, a fictional story based on the real life tragic events recalled in the journal recently discovered in Waldo (See Below*).
The album and books tell an interesting and unique story – a flamboyant, mysterious, dark, romantic and compelling tale of an anti-hero and his spectacular rise, fall and rise again….and yes, Lluther are right in the middle of it all, as each of the members all feature as characters in the books.
With constant demands and requests for new music from the fans, the band recently decided to make 3 of the tracks available through their own website. These tracks were “In The Dollhouse”, “King Of Nothing” and “Rise Of The Reptile King”. A limited number of promo singles were sent out to rock stations in Europe (excl UK) a few months ago and got a lot of airplay (especially in Italy, Poland, Finland, Germany). One track “In The Dollhouse” went into the Virgin Rock Radio Airplay Top 20 in Italy in June for 4 weeks, alongside U2, Them Cooked Vultures & Depeche Mode.
