Single “In The Dollhouse” – rel. date 20.01.10
From the forthcoming album “Rise Of The Reptile King”

Almost three years since the release of their highly acclaimed debut album “Agents Of Empire”, Lluther are back! Back with a vengeance, and back with the first single from their brand new straight-talking kick-ass rock album “Rise Of The Reptile King”.

what's new

In The Dollhouse” is the first single from Lluther in three years and is set for worldwide release on 20.01.2010. In fact, the band are taking the unusual step of releasing all the tracks from the album on a twice-monthly basis culminating with the release of the full album in September AND full length feature film in October (2010). The full release schedule is below:

Written and produced by lead singer Gerry Owens, “Rise Of The Reptile King” sees the band expanding its horizons on a musical journey pushing the boundaries of rock music, opening up new concepts and ideas.

Daring to be different, Lluther are not only planning the release of their album but probably just as importantly the production and release of the film “Rise Of The Reptile King” This album and film consists of 16 individual tracks which stand alone in their own right but which when played in full sequence tell an interesting, enticing and unique story – a tragic, comedic, flamboyant, colourful, mysterious, energetic, manipulative, dark, romantic and compelling tale of an anti-hero and his spectacular rise, fall and rise again. Influences on the production of the film include Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”, as well as David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino, and the films “The Shining”, “Moulin Rouge” and “Fight Club”. Scheduled to be shot in Spain, Germany and here in Ireland, it will also feature some of Ireland’s most talented and acclaimed performers and actors.

the last 3 years

All In the three years since the release of Agents Of Empire, whilst Lluther toured extensively around Europe, increasing their ever growing fan base, Gerry Owens also took stock of what he wanted to say in his music, how he could see it developing, generating new ideas with a sense of new and exciting creativity that had always just lurked beyond the horizon. He knew that whilst Agents Of Empire was a great album, that the potential within this band was still bubbling under the surface, and that an even greater and more accessible sound was there waiting to be developed….and just as important there was an audience waiting for it….

Whilst “Rise Of The Reptile King” tells a unique story, the songs are also stand-alone in their own right. The music is instantly accessible but it is also music of discovery, where the listener hears something more on each subsequent listening. It is exciting, it is driven and more importantly…it is now!.

biography

Lluther was originally formed in 2005 by Gerry Owens, who was looking for a new direction in music following the break-up of the highly acclaimed Skindive, a band fronted by Danielle Harrison in which Gerry was the main songwriter and guitarist. Skindive had been signed to music legend Chris Blackwell (U2, Tricky, Bob Marley etc)’s Palm Pictures record label, and their albums received excellent critical reviews with very credible sales in the US and around Europe. Skindive’s music featured in several television programs and was also used in the prestigious MTV Awards ceremony in 2003. Over the years, several of Gerry Owens compositions have also been used in various film soundtracks (Nightwatch, 3 Crosses etc).

Shortly after Lluther were formed they recorded and self-released their first EP “Venus Complex” and this led to them being quickly snapped up and signed to the German heavy rock label Tiefdruck Music. Back into the recording studio and the album “Agents Of Empire” was released shortly after on the Tiefdruck label. Working closely with the label they began to play all around Europe and got a tremendous crowd reaction. In early 2008, Lluther parted amicably with Tiefdruck as the band saw a much wider scope and vision for their music. At this time, Gerry’s songwriting and composing abilities were recognised by international music giants EMI Publishing where he signed to a major worldwide deal, and opened up infinite possibilities for Lluther’s music to be heard around the world.

All tracks on Rise Of The Reptile King were written and produced by Gerry Owens, mixed by both Gerry and renowned studio mixer Chris O’Brien, and mastered by Richard Dowling. .

Gerry Owens Blog – December 2009

“Well it's been an age, but my 40 days in the desert (...probably more like 400) is coming to an end just in time for 2010. The new album is called 'Rise Of The Reptile King' and it's been worth the wait. We're very proud of it.

Because of the way that the music industry has changed over the past few years, we spent a long time going through the various options we had for releasing this album. We looked at releasing the Reptile King album through a major or various mini majors, but give the changes that have happened to the industry (downloads, 360 deals, internet distribution etc) it just felt like the wrong approach for Lluther. Instead, we have decided to bring out the album through our own '383 Music' label in conjunction with our partners in EMI Publishing - who have been very helpful and encouraging in this respect.

So what we've decided to do is, starting from 20.01.10, we're going to release a song from the album on the 10th and 20th of every month until September. The songs will be available as both a free download from www.lluther.com and as a high quality version from iTunes and similar digital distribution points.

Why are we giving 2 years of work away for free? Well, the way that music is both found and valued has changed significantly. It used to be that Videos/touring etc were devices to support and promote a band's album, however with the rise in downloading, I think that the time has come that the roles have reversed. The album is now a device to promote the live show. Different people have different opinions on the downloading/piracy thing. Record companies have a much bigger problem with it that artists generally. Personally it's made me aware of a lot more new (and old) music - which can only be a good thing. So love it or hate it, illegal downloading is now a fact of life.

We've opted to both give it away AND to sell it. As I mentioned, each free download that is released will also be available in high quality format and the relevant graphics/images, so if you like the song and you can afford it, please spend the 99c on the high quality version.

The next piece of news is that we're about to start filming the movie 'Rise Of The Reptile King' which will be finished in September 2010. It's a feature length movie that's based on the songs from the album. We've been planning it for about 6 months now and it's a very ambitious undertaking for us. The idea started off in a small way, but has grown to monster proportions as time went on. We'll be giving more details about it throughout the first half of 2010, and there will be regular 'behind the scenes' images and videos as it progresses.

We've also just started to get into rehearsals for the live shows, and along with the movie, next year will also see us tour again. It's been 2 years since the band played live, so we're looking forward to it very much.

That's about it .......for now.
Thanks for your support”
